Trelawny townsin awful shape
published: Friday | October 5, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

While Trelawny has seen some development in the last couple of years, it is a disgrace to see how some of the towns in this parish are allowed to deteriorate.

The towns of Duncans and Clark's Town are two examples. Duncans is now an eyesore and health hazard with piles of household and commercial garbage thrown all over the streets as a breeding ground for rats and insects. An old gas station compound is now home to a garage right in the centre of the town.

Unfinished road repairs around the clock tower is a nuisance, and unplanned parking for taxis is creating havoc in the square. On leaving the square of Duncans heading to Clark's Town there seems to be several broken pipes with water running on the roadway for months. There are rundown buildings with what seems to be old clothes and plastic bags forming part of their structure.

Eyesores

There are several little shops without running water and toilet facilities. The town of Clark's Town is in a similar condition. We can only pray that there is not a outbreak of diseases.

Of course, there is the new beautiful Northcoast highway that bypasses these towns; and there are several hotels, the new World Cup cricket stadium and a recently opened historical park, but should a visitor decide to do some sightseeing (as they usually do) outside of these areas they will run into disgraceful eyesores.

Duncans needs help to return to its former glory. I am calling on the Member of Parliament, the councillor, the business com-munity and all other civic-minded citizens to spearhead a clean-up and rehabilitation process. After this is done, the authorities should invoke the law to prosecute those who continuously violate the Anti-litter Act.

I am, etc.,

R. ROSE

Prospect, Duncans P.O.

Trelawny
