Authorized favourite for Sunday's 'Arc'
published: Friday | October 5, 2007

Europe's richest race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, will be run over 12 furlongs at Longchamp in France on Sunday and a field of 16 is expected to face the starter.

Included in the line-up is this year's Epsom's Derby winner AUTHORIZED, who is the hot ante-post favourite at 11-8. He is followed by SOLIDER OF FORTUNE at 4-1, ZAMBEZI SUN at 9-2, the Irish-trained DYLAN THOMAS at 7-1, MANDESHA at 12-1 and SADDEX at 20-1, bar.

This year's Ascot Gold Cup winner YEATS, who is trained in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien, offers long odds of 40-1. YEATS recently won the Irish St. Leger, but O'Brien will more than likely pin his hopes on SOLDIER OF FORTUNE and DYLAN THOMAS, especially the latter, with the ground drying out and expected to ride faster than usual.

Coral Bookmakers go 11-2 from 8s for the Irish Derby winner DYLAN THOMAS. Ladbrokes and Blue Square both go 6s from 7s for him.

"A combination of drying ground at Longchamp and Kieron Fallon describing Dylan Thomas as the best horse he's ever ridden, has led to the support for this horse, and he could ever shorten further between now and Sunday", said spokesman David Stevens on Friday, according to a report on the Sporting Life website.

Meanwhile, Track Price Plus will offer ante-post betting on the 'Arc' up to Saturday evening.

Tomorrow, a large field of horses will contest the first leg of the Autumn double, the valuable Cambridgeshire Handicap over nine furlongs straight at Newmarket. PIPEDREAMER is the 5-1 ante-post favourite, followed by MONT at 8-1.
