Goals rain down on Penwood
published: Friday | October 5, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Bridgeport continued their impressive onslaught in the ISSA/ Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup yesterday, mercilessly mowing down Penwood 9-0 at the Jamintel field.

Andre Clennon, the top striker for the titleholders, maintained his impressive form slamming in a hat-trick in the encounter.

The three-timer moved Clen-non's total to an impressive 11 goals in just three games, while the defending champions have put an astounding 29 goals into the net in the same period.

However, following the withdrawal of Haile Selassie from the competition, their official goal total will stand at 16.

Top of the group

Jameel Hardware had two goals in yesterday's encounter. The win saw Bridgeport move to the top of Group D with 12 points, followed by St. George's and Norman Manley, who are on 10 points each. Both of those teams were inactive yesterday.

In the group's other game, Dunoon came from a goal behind to down Ardenne 4-2. In Group C, former champions Calabar continued to struggle for consistency when they played their way to a 0-0 draw with St. Catherine. In another game in that section of the draw, Meadowbrook got their first win of the season when they slipped by Kingston Technical 1-0 while Campion College suffered a severe blow to their hopes of a place in the second round when they lost to struggling Edith Dalton James 1-0.

In Group B, a brace by Oshane Williams saw Kingston College come away 4-1 winners at José Marti, while Kingston High earned their second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Donald Quarrie.
