Bank on Mambo in seventh race
published: Friday | October 5, 2007

MEDICAL ACCOUNT (Devon A. Thomas) moves away from SANTA ANITA GIRL (Omar Walker) to win the Violet Armond Memorial Cup over 1600 metres at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. He won at odds of 7-2. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

Both the Pick-9 and Super-6 start anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow, the card featuring 11 races starting at noon. On Wednesday, one lucky punter walked away with the whopping Pick-9 payout of $2.1 million. It starts anew with the guaranteed minimum of $1 million. The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11; the Super-6 from six to 11.

We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a $315,000 - $295,000 claiming race over 1500 metres to be contested by eight starters, including the front-running RIZZI LEE, the recent winner NIJINSKY'S WAY, now up in class, the well-trained RAMADA and the likely favourite, CAPTAIN BONE, who was claimed by trainer Gary Subratie on September 1, following his near miss against FIWI EMBLEM in a 1400-metre trophy race on September 1.

Winning ways

Despite the presence of FIWI EMBLEM, who has been beaten in two subsequent races, CAPTAIN BONE, who runs from the convenient mark of 51.0kg and in-form apprentice Carlton Malcolm aboard, is tipped to resume winning ways.

MAMBO, who beat a good field over the circular nine course on a $210,000 claiming tag on September 12, steps down in class to contest the seventh race for the Monica Todd Memorial Cup (claiming $170,000) over 2000 metres and only 51.0kg, is confidently expected to repeat in a field of eight. SEEMELATER, who was a good second to THUNDER CLAP last Saturday and DIGITEC, who seems to be regaining form, are twin dangers.

ISLA, who left us on a winning note back in June, has looked razor sharp at exercise under the care of 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny and despite the presence of DR. BADOO and THANKSWITH-ASMILE, looks a cinch in the eighth race for three-year-olds over the straight five course.

ISLA won by all of 11 lengths from RIGGED TO WIN over 1100 metres when last raced on June 23 and back in action with a mere 48.0kg and title-chasing apprentice Javour Simpson aboard, she looks hard to oppose.

MAKE THEM LAFF, the mount of joint leading jockey, the apprentice Omar Walker, ran creditably behind ROYAL KINGDOM last time out and should oblige at the expense of WEE GLITZ and BAILAME in the ninth race over 1500 metres.

Then, take the unbeaten three-year-old filly OUTSTANDING (working really well) to make it five in a row in the 10th race over the straight for the G.A. 'Sarge' Bucknor Memorial Cup in which the straight specialist DOUBLE BOW looks her principal danger.

And down-in-class SHAHID (Walker up) should score a long overdue victory in the closing race over 1400 metres in which ROYAL KINGDOM and down-in-class 3-y-o GRANDPA'S DREAM are his main dangers.
