CTL take football double
published: Friday | October 5, 2007

Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) completed the racing fraternity football double on Sunday when they clipped Exercise Riders 1-0 in the league final at Ironside ground, Gregory Park.

In a fast-paced match, both teams missed several scoring opportunities and the winning goal only came in time added on.

CTL's captain Stephon Hinds latched on to a chip from Nicholas McKenzie in the 42nd minute and tapped the ball to the far corner, much to the delight of his supporters.

On Thursday, September 27, at Ironside, CTL won the KO competition by virtue of a 1-0 victory over Grooms. The match went into extra time after both teams were locked at 0-0 at the end of regulation time. The deadlock was broken in the second period of extra time when Kevin Wallace got the all-important goal for CTL.

On Sunday, Grooms beat Landscape/Gatemen 2-0 in the playoff for third (league), with Prince Bygrave getting both goals.

In the presentation of trophies and prizes following Sunday's final, CTL received both trophies from representatives of the sponsors, CTL and McKay Security. Grooms, runners-up in the knockout competition, picked up additional awards for the most disciplined team and the best dressed team.

CTL's Stephon Hinds won the MVP award, while Oneil White who represents Landscape/-Gatemen, won the award for leading goalscorer. A special award was given to groundsman, Mark McDonald.
