Fair Prospect, St Thomas move on
published: Thursday | October 11, 2007

Adrian Frater, New Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

FAIR PROSPECT and St. Thomas joined Port Antonio and Seaforth in the four-team play-off to decide the two inter-zone places from Zone L of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup yesterday when they registered decisive 5-2 and 2-0 wins against Morant Bay and Titchfield respectively.

The Fair Prospect team, which went into their Zone L (A) fixture against Titchfield needing a win to advance ahead of their opponent, turned in a sterling performance with Gregory Burke, Tyrone Brown (two), Jermaine Ming and Jamar Webber striking. Titchfield, who lost for the second time this season, got their goals from Omar Pryce and Rayon Bodley (penalty).

"We have not be playing to our full potential this season but now that we have advanced to the play-off we need to get it right because we have a very good chance of advancing from the zone for the first time," said Donavan Rickettes, the coach of Fair Prospect. "We will be putting in some serious work in a bid to be at our best in the play-off games."

In their Zone L (B) fixture against Morant Bay, the St. Thomas Technical team, which needed just a draw to advance, made sure that there would be no slip ups as Rodaine Brissette and Cleon Little got the all-important goals for their team, which completed the group fixture with 14 points.

In another crucial game yesterday, former champions Godfrey Stewart (12) moved into second place in the competitive Zone C when they held leaders Grange Hill (15) to a 0-0 draw on their highly anticipated showdown in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland. The teams had battled to a 2-2 draw in their first-round meeting.

"We are steadily getting back into our own after a slow start of the season," said Carl Palmer, the coach of the Godfrey Stewart team.

"We just need to keep getting positive results and we should be able to advance from the zone."
