PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

The Trinidad-based Caribbean Centre for Human rights (CCHR) says it is concerned with the "growing numbers of police killings in Trinidad and Tobago during 2007".

In a statement, CCHR said that 29 people, the highest number in 24 years, had been killed during the year, adding "There are simply too many of them."

The CCHR said that while it was against the implementation of the death penalty as a deterrent to murder, it was not calling on persons to break the law.
