Dominica on dengue alert
published: Friday | October 12, 2007

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):

Health officials in Dominica have launched a public information campaign even as they say they do not intend to alarm citizens about a possible outbreak of dengue fever.

Environmental health officer Sylvester St. Ville said the authorities were also taking the necessary precautions regarding the reporting of dengue cases on the island.

"We want to be careful in the Ministry of Health that we don't alarm people with news of dengue, at the same time people need to be informed that dengue is here and we need to take the necessary steps," St. Ville said on the state-owned radio service of the Dominica Broadcasting Corporation.

St. Ville said there were no confirmed cases of dengue on the island.
