Violence breeds violence
published: Friday | October 12, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Head of National Reconstruc-tion Effort, Kingsley Thomas, is dead wrong. There has never been any scientific finding anywhere in the world that proves hanging is a solution to solving the murder problem. As a matter of fact, murder by the state tends to escalate crime in the society more than decreases it. Violence breeds violence.

The law should be repealed, killing by the state or killing otherwise violates the sixth commandment creating negative cosmic conditions such as natural disasters, poverty and other form of human suffering.

Governments have a responsibility to protect the citizens and not to enact laws to promote crime, violence and oppression, laws to prevent some people from worshiping the God they believe in.

Kingsley Thomas knows the conditions people in Kingston are forced to tolerate hence his position as reconstructor.

From a point of view of quality health, the city of Kingston should be condemned, unfit for human habitation. Ungodliness in the society is the major cause of the suffering all of us experience form one day to the next.

The answer, Mr, Thomas, is not to resume hanging, but for all Jamaicans who call themselves Christians to contemplate, to ponder, then put into effect the word of God, that which is required of us to be blessed and receive national exhalation.

I am, etc.,

Rev LEEROY JAMES
