A time to say farewell

She was definitely in a party mood and loved being the centre of attention. But this may have been a façade because when it came time to say goodbye, no tune could keep the smile on her face and the tears flowed freely.

There were trickles all around the room and you would have thought the Somerset Suite at the Courtleigh Hotel in New Kingston was leaking, as DHL held a farewell reception for managing director Marlene Virgo.

Leaving home

After eight and a half years, she leaves to join GraceKennedy Foods International as a logistics manager. Virgo told The Gleaner, "Transport gets into your blood and stays there. These guys are like family but you have to leave home when the time comes. I'm going to miss the energy. They are passionate people. No member of staff is over 50 years old so they have this vibe and energy."

However, when it came time for them to tell her how they really felt, it was clear how close they were and how much they would miss her.

By popular demand, Virgo sang 'rehab' before performing 'the dance' which is beyond description. Then the professionals took over in the form of everyone's favourite fraction, One Third.

Among those crying were regional director U.S. Jaime Hooker, customer service representative Patrice Henry, Teneisha Smith, operations manager Gary Scott, Tansa Swaby, Colin Grant, Grace Reynolds-Robinson, Devon Fairman, Doris Rodrique, Amorley Hibbert and Robert Turner.

This is how DHL really packs a load, demonstrates general manager Marlene Virgo to Colin Grant.
