Inclement weather closes Corporate Area schools
published: Saturday | October 13, 2007

Many schools in the Corporate Area cancelled classes yesterday after heavy rains lashed sections of the island on Thursday.

Some of the schools which were closed included Kingston College, St. Cecelia's Preparatory, Vaz Preparatory, St. Theresa's Prepa-ratory, and Immaculate Conception High and Preparatory.

Rupert Hemmings, principal of Kingston College, told The Gleaner that the inclement weather forced his administration to close the school.

He noted that classes were supposed to be in full session yesterday because students had already lost days during Hurricane Dean which hit the island in August. However, Mr. Hemmings said students are expected to return to school on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Nadine Molloy, principal of Buff Bay High School in Portland, said classes were held at her school yesterday. In fact, she noted that most schools in the parish remained opened as Portland did not experience the heavy rainfall that other parishes experienced.
