Camperdown, 'Charlie' clash at Vauxhall
published: Saturday | October 13, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Leaders Charlie Smith and second-placed Camperdown will look to put themselves in prime position to advance from a hotly-contested Group E, when the teams meet in today's top of the table ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup clash at 3:30p.m. at Vauxhall High School.

With six games already played in the group and roughly three games remaining, things are neck and neck between Charlie Smith, Camper-down and surprise team Greater Portmore.

Charlie are out in front with 14 points, but Camperdown are a close second with 12, while Greater Portmore are three points off pace with 11.

When the team last met they played to a 1-1 draw, but another result like that today could see Greater Portmore, who travel to Ferdie Neita Park to face Ascot, make up ground on both teams. In that group's other scheduled game, Pembroke Hall will host Denham Town.

busy day

Should the heavy rains, that have wreaked havoc on this week's fixture, hold up, it should be a busy day of schoolboy football with 12 games expected to be on the cards.

In Group D, which has also proven to be highly competitive, St. George's (13) will look to stay in the hunt for a spot in the second round when they host Dunoon at Winchester Park. Currently, third in the group with a game in hand, Norman Manley (11) will host Ardenne at Tinson Pen. Defending champions Bridegport (13) will have the day off as they were scheduled to play Haile Selassie, who have since withdrawn from the competition.

In Group C, Calabar (17) will look to extend their lead at the top of the table when they host Kingston Technical, Wolmer's (15) points will hope to keep pace with the group leaders when they tackle Edith Dalton at Baldwin Crescent, while Meadowbrook will host Campion.

In Group A, Jamaica College will look to put more distance between themselves and second-placed Waterford when they travel to St Jago. Waterford will look to get the better of Tivoli at the Edward Seaga Complex, while St. Mary's College will host Innswood.
