Western Bureau:After being kept off the court by heavy rains last Saturday, champions Lady Avalanche and Angels will lock horns in the final of the 2007 Western Basketball Association (WBA) female league today, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Based on their respective records this season, including two preliminary round meetings saw Angels winning one game 35-33 and Lady Avalanche winning the other 44-22, this final should be an intriguing affair.

"This is a dream final between two excellent teams," said WBA president Charles Stephenson. "No true basketball fan would want to miss a final like this."

Coming off their 2006 championship season, Lady Avalanche were expected to sweep all before them. However, they suffered losses to both Angels and the youthful Naldi Knights, which saw them ending the competition's preliminary phase with a 6-2 record.

For their part, the Angels outfit, which primarily consists of established netball players, has been having an excellent season, chalking up a 6-1 record with their only blemish being the loss to Lady Avalanche.

At the competition's just concluded semi-final stage, Lady Avalanche were awesome in disposing of MoBay Pacers 76-44, while Angels had to dig deep to get past the resilient Naldi Knights 68-62.

Today, the Galton Taylor-coached Lady Avalance will be banking on the likes of the league's reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Nicole Dias, the skillful Olivia Bowen, the veteran Suzette Virgo and the league's best player this season, Mahavia Findlator.

For their part, the Hubert Grant-conditioned Angels look fairly composed with the likes of the inspirational Doneisha Love, Omesha Peterkin, Nadine Earle, Ladonna Lamonth and the versatile Bridgette Brown.
