Windwards cruise to victory
published: Sunday | October 21, 2007

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC:

THE WINDWARD Islands cruised to a comfortable five-wicket victory over Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in their final preliminary round match of the KFC Cup at the Blairmont Community Centre in Berbice yesterday.

Set 132 for victory, the Windwards, who won the toss and decided to field, coasted to 132 for five from 33.4 overs. Despite the win, their first of the tournament, the Windwards are out of the competition after losing their two opening matches.

Leading the successful chase for the Windwards were West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy, who scored a steady 32, and Under-19 batsman Donwell Hector, who cracked 30.

The pair shared an easy 43-run, fourth-wicket stand after the Windwards had received a good start from left-hander Devon Smith (19) and opening partner Miles Bascombe (19), who also added 43 for the first wicket.
