New West Indies head coach, John Dyson, is not intimidated by the mammoth challenge he faces and says one of his major aims will be to build relationships with players.

Dyson, the former Australian Test batsman, said he would try to find strategies to reach players instead of bringing a generic approach.

"The sort of coach I am is that I will get to know these players. I think there are different strategies for different sorts of people and to come in and say I am a particular sort of coach and I will use this particular strategy with this group of people, at this point in time, I don't know the people," the 53-year-old told CMC's CricketPlus Sunday. "What I will do, I will come in, get to know them and with my support staff determine a plan and a strategy that we'll then put into place but it might be different to the strategies we used in Sri Lanka [when I was coach there]. It depends on the type of people."

Dyson said though he had spoken to the previous West Indies assistant coach, fellow Australian David Moore, he wanted to approach his new job with an open mind.

"Until I actually get to meet the players and get to know the players and see how they work, I'm going to reserve my judgement on that (players' attitudes)," said Dyson. "Hopefully, what we'll aim to do is to reverse the trend, improve upon our positions in the ICC tables and that won't come overnight, that will take some time. But we'll aim to achieve an environment in which these players can achieve their full potential. I see myself as being a professional cricket coach and I enjoy very much the top level of cricket and the challenge of working with West Indies cricket at the top level and hopefully helping turn around West Indies cricket is just too enticing to leave alone."
