Excelsior High and Calabar secured their place in tomorrow's semi-finals of the Walker Cup KO competition, after scoring quarter-final wins yesterday at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

They now join Jamaica College (JC) and Bridgeport in the semi-finals.

In the curtain raiser Excelsior, led by hat-trick from Leon Powell, thrashed Camperdown 7-0. Powell netted his goals in the first, fifth and 59th, while Alanzo Adlam (16th and 69th), Sevoro Murphy (61st) and Ricardo Scott (74th) netted the other goals.

In the second game, Calabar, playing their second match of the season since the death of coach David Hunt, who suffered a heart attack on Friday, defeated St. Andrew Technical (STATHS) 2-1. They had beaten Edith Dalton James 2-1 on Saturday to book their spot in Walker Cup quarter-finals.

Keneil Hyde (54th) and Cleyon Brown (57th) scored for Calabar, while Sheldon Charlton pull one back for STATHS from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.

Utmost for the Highest

Holmer Morgan, Calabar's manager, said: "We tried our best to come here to play for our coach (Hunt) ... as we know our motto is the 'Utmost for the Highest' and we never say die.

Meanwhile, Excelsior's coach, Leebert Halliman, was happy with their performance.

"I think we played well," said Halliman. "We needed an early goal to settle and we got that. We were able to build on this.

"I think our early goals hit the Camperdown team off the feet, they also gave us a lot of room and so it was very difficult to assess how we played today."
