Children must learn to cope
published: Friday | November 2, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

What is wrong with us as a nation? Why are we promoting ignorance in our youths?

Is there an occurrence of homosexual unions with children? Is it common? Is it considered a family type? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding YES!

Why then are we up in arms over it being taught as a viable family type? The book in question did not say this type of arrangement was acceptable, nor did it say it was something to aspire towards. It spoke simply to its occurrence and its viability as a functional family type.

As recent as the last century academia had the view that what we know now as single-parent families were not in fact families. According to Christian faith all sins are equal. Therefore, homosexual unions are no more immoral than common-law unions. The latter is now taught as a family type. Stop being hypocritical.

The occurrence of homosexuality is an international issue with alarming new information which supports the view that homosexuality can actually be explained by genetic abnormality and hormonal imbalances. If this is in fact the case, which I suspect it is, then homophobia is then akin to racism. Is this what we want to teach our children?

A lot of us are foreign-minded. How are our youth to cope then when they are thrown into these new cultures where homosexuality is more acceptable?

We need to wise up. We need to educate our children. The aim should be having youth who are aware locally and globally.

I am, etc.,

K. THOMPSON
