Anxious for Yallahs bridge
published: Friday | November 2, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I was born and raised in Yallahs and have lived with the fear and inconvenience of the Yallahs River for 62 years. I have seen the destruction of the original ford structure and have seen the Bailey bridge come and go. We have waited many years for a proper bridge to be erected and were happy when we heard the announcement and saw material on site.

My happiness has turned into worry as I see materials being left in the river bed; my worry even extends to the ridge where they have their base camp … both materials and the camp can be washed away.

This river should not be underrated, for those of us who live here know its power and the destruction it can bring. I, for one, would not like this to happen as it would slow down the work or stop it totally. I believe that this bridge will impact positively on the growth and development of St. Thomas, and is long overdue.

I am, etc.,

CONROY G. HENTON

Southaven, Yallahs P.O.
