WESTERN BUREAU:The staff at the Montego Bay courthouse in St. James was greeted with remnants of a fire on their arrival at work, yesterday morning.
The Gleaner understands that a clerk's office reportedly suffered minor damage as a result of a Molotov cocktail bomb that was thrown through a window.
"When we went there, we found it was one of those Molotov cocktails. Some books and a few of the furniture suffered minor damage," said Superintendent Steve McGregor, head of the St. James Police Division.
Someone of unsound mind
"Preliminary information is that someone of unsound mind carried out the act, but we are still doing our investigations. So far, we have not yet affixed any motive for the incident."
The predawn fire did not postpone the proceedings at the Resident Magistrate's and Western Regional gun courts.
While most of her colleagues at the Montego Bay Courthouse office were mum on the incident; one perky female worker commented: "We had a minor fire this morning and its business as usual."
Fire was reportedly seen coming from the building about 3:00 a.m. and a unit from the Montego Bay Fire Department was called to put out the blaze.
