Parenting policy
published: Monday | November 5, 2007

The Editor, Sir;

This parenting policy that the Ministry of Education is proposing is a great first step in bringing parents to the point of understanding their role and responsibilities.

For far too long it was felt that parents could go about being irresponsible and negligent and nothing happens. My only hope though is that whatever legislation is formulated at the end of the day, it will have teeth, psychologically, emotionally and physically. What I find is, over the years, teachers have become surrogate parents. This madness must stop now and the sooner the better if the 2030 development plan of the Government is to become a reality.

I am, etc.,

O'Neil Ankle,

Denbigh, Clarendon
