Bolton needed 'One Night Only' to tear the house down
published: Tuesday | November 6, 2007

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

Patrons needed one night only of the crooner Michael Bolton, at his show dubbed 'One Night Only' at the National indoor Sports centre on Sunday.

For 'One Night Only' Michael Bolton rocked the National Indoor Sports Arena last Sunday night to a room full of excited women.

Before the sensual voice of Bolton sent shivers through his female fans acts such as Hezrone and Robert 'Dubwise' Browne made a movement on stage. Hezrone tried to rock the crowd with songs such as Without You and others. Guitarist Robert Browne showcased his skill as he passionately strummed his guitar to a reggae beat before going into Johnny Be Good then followed up with some blues.

Cherine Anderson entered on stage looking luscious to her remix of the classic Redemption Song, singing about Kingston's State of Mind then she wined and carried on to Good Love to the delight of her fans. To the welcome surprise Cherine introduced Chuck Fender as he asked Are You Coming Over Tonight? For the opening segment of the show it was Christopher Martin who really got the crowd moving.

No longer a 'rising star' but an established artiste, Christopher looked radiant in white as for the first time in the night the women got out of their seats to rock and sing along to the music. Martin talked about his Jamaican Girls before saying softly to the women "I wanna be the one taking you wherever you wanna go", then moved on to his new song Driver. After his original songs, Martin belted out the high noted for I've Been Loving You and The Reason as the women screamed their delight. Chris then ended his set on a high note with Take My Wings And Fly Away.

Emcee Paula Ann Porter then announced a brief band change to accommodate the main act as the packed venue took the time out to talk, drink and eat. The VIP area was especially decked out with an open bar and food table as patrons and a few celebrities mixed and mingled. One could hear the entrance of Michael Bolton before he was seen as a pandemonium of feminine screams littered the air.

Rush of patrons

A rush of patrons moved to the front of the stage as Bolton belted out Love Is A Wonderful Thing and Sole Provider. Bolton's deep yet strong voice was in form as he sang You Don't Know What Its Like and the women tried their best to grab his arm and get closer to the star. Three dress changes by Bolton signalled the different segments of his performance. Bolton exited briefly and came back in a black suit for his swing/Frank Sinatra section with songs such as New York, New York and Day and Night. He grew a bit more subdued in this section with some of the songs being unfamiliar.

Another dress change ushered in the contemporary section with songs like How Can We Be Lovers and When A Man Loves A Woman. Some patrons moved out of the venue believing the show was finished and trying to beat traffic but for the lucky ones that stayed behind Bolton came back on stage for an encore performance with I Said I Loved You But I Lied and Rock Me Baby (All Night Long). Overall, the women will remember their one night with Michael Bolton.
