BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):Barbadian batsman Floyd Reifer has revealed he still has hopes of playing for the West Indies.
The 35-year-old, who now represents Combined Campuses and Colleges in the regional competition, said he still possessed what was required to excel at the highest level.
"I notice that when you always write you always say I'm a former West Indies player. I have not retired from [international] cricket. I still have a lot of cricket left in me," Reifer told the Daily Nation newspaper here. "I'm rejuvenated. I believe I am batting the best I have for a long time, and I can make it back to the top again."
Reifer was speaking following his unbeaten half-century that helped University of the West Indies to a four-wicket win in the final of the Super Cup one-day competition here Saturday.
The elegant left-hander also shone during the recent KFC Cup, regional one-day competition, slamming the only century to earn CCC a tie against defending champions Trinidad & Tobago in the opening round.
Reifer had little success in his abbreviated international career for the West Indies, managing 63 runs in four Tests and 31 in two One-Day Internationals and has not worn maroon colours since 1999. Despite this, he remains convinced about his ability.
"I know how it's played at that (international) level and I know what would be required of me. I see a lot of players being selected and I would like to get a chance as well," Reifer said.
