published: Tuesday | November 6, 2007

Defending champions Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Highgate United registered victories in last weekend's round of matches in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/Northwest Development Club League.

In division one action at Up Park Camp, the hosts defeated newcomers Hy-Performance 3-1 and another newcomer, Athletico Port Antonio, won by default from Cable & Wireless, which did not have a full team present.

At Pembroke Hall Community Centre, Highgate edged the hosts 3-2 in division four, which is being contested for the first time in the league.

Singles matches

At Up Park Camp, in individual results, Phillip Drummond defeated Rudolph Sinclair 3-1 (7-11, 11-9, 15-13, 11-5) and national champion Nigel Webb tagged Robert Hyatt 3-1 (11-4, 10-12, 11-3, 11-4) in singles matches. Drummond and Webb turned back Rohan Schloss and Hyatt 3-1 (5-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-2) in doubles, for JDF's three victories. Schloss trounced Stephen Grant 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-9) to pull one back for Hy-Performance.

At Pembroke Hall Community Centre, Highgate United started their victory chase in the third match after losing the first two. It started with Anthony Samaroo (son of the team's coach, Peter) edging Andrene Hart 3 -2 (9-11, 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 13-11), after which Ainsley Segree beat Brian Baker 3-2 (4-11, 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8), Andre Walsh beat Neville Baker 3-1 (11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6) in the fifth match to secure the triumph for his team.
