NOTE-WORTHY: Food in Cuba
published: Tuesday | November 13, 2007

Food in Cuba

In reference to the Robert Buddan's article in The Sunday Gleaner, he wrote that Cuba was feeding its people.

If this is true, why do I need to send American dollars to my mother so she can buy her food because her pension is not enough to survive?

Do you know how many Cubans who left the country have to do the same? Do you know how many dollars enter the country this way?

My mother would starve to death if I don't send the money and the medicines she needs. Cuba is not a Monet, take a closer look to see the way it really is.

Second-hand stuff

All I read from 'Why we should fear China' was second-hand materials duplicated from the Western media and parroted rather awkwardly by columnist Ian Boyne.

If he thinks that by doing so he would be identified as a 'club' member of the 'elite' Western media, he couldn't have been more wrong.

All he has achieved is an image of a 'wannabe' from a Third World country by being a 'copy-cat' of the First World media.

Energy potential

I wonder if anyone at the Transport Ministry has given any thought to the enormous energy-generating potential of the roof of the new Half-Way Tree Transport Centre?

Solar panels on this enormous expanse has the potential of generating up to 90 per cent of the energy needs of the centre, resulting in savings of millions of dollars.

Cost-effective new solar technology, available from companies like Sepco in the United States an Energy and Consulting in Germany would be ideal for this kind of structure, and I'm fairly confident that the agencies funding for the structure would be happy to provide the resources to make this happen.

Hanging is best

Hanging is the best solution to solve the problem of crime and violence. We have so many convicted criminals in jail at taxpayers' expense.

When I read the story of the couple who went out of their way to help, as good Samaritans, the motorist they had an accident with and were kidnapped and killed, the question we should ask ourselves is why? How could they?

Imagine an act of kindness leading to this. May their souls rest in peace, and I concur with our Minister of Security that we should resume hanging!
