What about the railway?
published: Friday | November 16, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

During the election campaign, Mike Henry, then Opposition spokesman on transport, stated that a Jamaica Labour Party government would revive the rail service.

Approximately two years ago, the Chinese Government expressed an interest in the railway, to that extent, a technical team from China visited the island and conducted a feasibility study of the Jamaica Railway Corporation stock. To date, neither the Ministry of Transport nor the Development Bank of Jamaica has indicated to the country the status of the study.

The rail service once played an essential and integral role in the lives of farmers, civil servants and higglers. The closure of the railway was a colossal disaster for the country. Now that Mr. Henry is the Minister of Transport and Works, he should tell us something about the status of the railway.

I am, etc.,
