This an open letter to Councillor Audley Gilpin, Lucea Division:

Dear Mr. Gilpin,

On June 7, 2004, we the citizen taxpayers of Camp Road/Haughton Court met with you to discuss the deplorable state of the roads and the lack of street lights in our community. The matter was tabled in the monthly Parish Council meeting and directed to the Infrastructure Committee.

Some marl was dumped on the road and rolled, despite our informing you that this was a 'band-aid' approach, and that the road needs to be ballasted with stones, and proper drainage installed and maintained.

Do you remember telling us that when marl is rolled and set, it can "take water"? The rain has taken the marl to the bottom of the Caribbean Sea, and what is left is on its way there. Do you consider this to be a wise use of funds? We pay thousands of dollars in motor vehicle licensing fees at the Lucea Tax Collectorate, but we were not aware that the council has such a surplus of cash. Can we assume that you will be repairing the road again this month, or as a Christmas treat for taxpayers?

There are still no street lights in our community we were told that they were approved by the council and Jamaica Public Service.

Please forgive us for being so impatient as only three years have passed since our first meeting with you. We also met with you on December 14, 2004, and on other occasions.

Sir, if you cannot assist the citizens who elected you, why don't you resign?
