published: Friday | November 30, 2007

Eduardo Ryan, new chief financial officer of Cable and Wireless Jamaica. - contributed

Cable & Wireless Jamaica (CWJ) has announced the appointment Eduardo Ryan, as the company's new chief financial officer, reporting to President Phil Green.

Ryan assumed the position this month, replacing Mark Thompson who resigned in April and is now employed as CEO of Michael Lee Chin's insurance company Advantage General.

Ryan has more than 13 years of experience in financial management "with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the telecommunications industry", said CWJ. His last job was CFO and vice-president of finance with Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico.

He has also worked with Verizon's Puerto Rico operation.

"He has extensive experience in revenue growth, profit improvement and process redesign," said Green of his new team member.

"This expertise will be crucial as CWJ seeks to improve its position in an increasingly competitive market."

The full-service telecoms company, which made $2 of profit at year-end March 2007, is now half a billion in the red over the first two quarters to September 30.
