Seba too much for Harbour View
published: Friday | November 30, 2007

Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

SEBA UNITED looked like a machine of destruction on Wednesday night as they tore though the Harbour View team at will during their encounter in the Cash Plus Premier League at Jarrett Park.

The pace at which they played and the speed at which they moved the ball had the Harbour View defence at sixes and sevens and had it not been for the brilliance of young goalkeeper Dwayne Miller, the 2-0 margin could have been much wider. Delroy Ellis scored in the 21st minute and Wilfred Smith added the second in the 52nd minute.

So dominant were Seba and so pleasing was the performance that even coach Theodore Whitmore decided to give himself an eight-minute cameo, much to the delight of the crowd.

Losing coach Lenworth Hyde could do nothing but salute the home team's performance.

"I must congratulate the Seba team. I think they came with more purpose and intensity and we could not cope with it," Hyde said.

Not our day

"It was just not our day. We did not get it going. I think the pitch was a bit bouncy and hard, and we did not get to play how we wanted to play," he said.

The brilliance of goalkeeper Miller, he said, was testament to how much his team were out of the game.

"Yes, definitely he was good and with that being the case you see how things were going for us. Nothing was happening on the field for us. We were turning over the ball in the final third and we did not get any clear shots on goal. We were just trying," said Hyde of Miller's performance and its reflection on the Harbour View team.

The loss was Harbour View's second in a row following on Sunday's 1-0 loss to new leaders Portmore United. Despite that being the case, Hyde found no reason for alarm.

"We have four rounds (to go). We just have to be patient and go and work harder," he said.

For Whitmore, whose team also lost on Sunday, that game was a wake-up call which got them ready for the test of the Harbour View team.

"I think this evening we came here needing three points, it was a home game," Whitmore said.

Down to 10 men

"We went to Arnett Gardens and relaxed a bit, Arnett went down to 10 men ... I guess we panicked. This evening the guys really showed that they wanted it," said the man who also holds the post of interim national coach.

The fact that Seba United played with such hunger, aggression and flair was only a matter of time for him.

"We went on a one-month break. We did not play a game, we did not get a good practice match. I guess the Arnett Gardens game was just a wake-up call. (When) we play against the Harbour Views and the Portmore Uniteds, these are the games that we need to get three points from," he continued.

With the win, Seba United climbed to second spot on 16 points, one behind Portmore United with whom they have an outstanding game. Tivoli are third with 15 points, while the defending champions Harbour View are fourth with 12, the same as Arnett Gardens and St. Georges.
