HARDLEY A SURPRISE - Lewin new top cop
Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, the former Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), will become the new commissioner of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, confirming initial Gleaner reports that the ex-army man was favoured for the top post.

AIDS programme will be sustained, says Jamaican Prime Minister

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has announced that the Global Fund grant which covers the cost of HIV/AIDS programmes, including antiretroviral drugs for persons living with the virus, will continue over the next five years.

Senate approves Trafigura probe

A report in the Financial Gleaner of November 30, said Cable and Wireless Jamaica made a profit of $2 at its financial year-end March 2007. The correct figure is $2 billion.

Man goes crazy in hospital bust-up - Woman injured in treatment room

A woman, who took her son to the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine early Friday morning to be treated for asthma, ended up in the emergency room herself after being attacked by a man said to be of unsound mind.

Jury selection no issue

The Court of Appeal has cleared coroner of Kingston and St. Andrew, Patrick Murphy, of a Supreme Court ruling that the method he employed in the jury selection process between 2004 and 2005 was flawed.
