Grant to return as Eastern Confed bossIncumbent Raymond Grant will return as chairman of the Confederation of Eastern Football Associations on December 9.
At the closing of nominations for the candidates for the officers that are expected to manage the affairs of the confederation, Grant, president of the Portland Football Association, was the only candidate for the post of chairman.
Alfred Pennant, the incumbent and president of the St. Thomas Football Association, will also return unopposed as first deputy chairman.
Two candidates, Bryan Rhoden, treasurer of St. Mary Football Association, and Vannie Clarke, general secretary at the St. Ann Football Association, will vie for the second deputy chairman position.
Wayne Alexander, first vice-president of the St. Mary FA, is the only candidate for the post of general secretary, while Wayne Thompson, first vice-president at the St. Thomas FA, is the lone candidate for the post of treasurer. Second vice-president of the St. Mary FA, Deloris Williamson, will return as assistant secretary, while Trevor Purboo will serve another two-year term as executive officer.
The election of officers will take place at the Social Development Commission office, Morant Bay, St. Thomas on Sunday, December 9, commencing at 11:00 a.m.
Pembroke Hall get by Juici Patties
Three division three matches were played on Thursday night, as the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/Northwest Development National Table Tennis Club League continued.
Former champions Pembroke Hall, with national champion Yvonne Foster, edged Juici Patties 3-2, JDF drubbed UTech 4-1, and Alpart clipped Windalco 3-2 at Kirkvine Sports Club.
Pembroke Hall had lost 3-2 to Juici Patties in their first-round encounter last week but turned the tables in the return clash at Pembroke Hall Community Centre.
The win takes them to the top of the standings in group two with 10 points, two ahead of Juici Patties with Windalco Kirkvine SC I on seven and newcomers Hy-Performance (three).
In group three, JDF maintained their 100 per cent win record after four matches, extending their lead atop the standings to 12 points. They are followed by Alpart on four points, Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club II on two and UTech, one.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.
The league continues today with two division one matches at the Hy-Performance venue, Hope Pastures, and a rescheduled division four match at the St. Mary High School auditorium.
ISSA/Digicel rural netball
The semi-finals of the ISSA/Digicel rural netball competition for both the seniors and juniors are scheduled to be played on Tuesday in Buckfield, Ocho Rios, starting at 10:30 a.m.
In the seniors, Manning's School will oppose Denbigh High in the first semi-final, while Edwin Allen are up against Holmwood in the second .
In the first semi-final of the juniors, Herbert Morrison will take on Denbigh, and Edwin Allen face Frome Technical in the second.
Old Harbour community football presentation
The presentation ceremony for the Old Harbour Bay community football league takes place this evening at the Old Harbour Baptist Church grounds, Main Street, starting at 6:00.
Guest speaker will be Ambassador Stewart Stephenson, president of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association.
CTL Portmore domino
Old Harbour United pulled off the first big upset in the CTL-sponsored Portmore/St. Catherine Domino League last Sunday when they defeated highly touted Fort International 300-283 in a home match, as the competition marked its second round.
Other notable winners were defending division one champions Hurricane, who got by Lime Tree 300-276 at Lime Tree Grove to make it two in a row, Caribbean Classic, who did likewise with a 300-276 win over JUTC in a home match at Portmore Lane, Village Link, who crushed New Look 300-238 at Lakes Pen, Eagle View, who stopped newcomers Ackee Pod 300-281 at Garveymeade Sports Club, and last year's beaten finalists Eradication, who beat Seamaster 300-255 in an away match at Old Harbour Bay. The competition continues tomorrow with 10 matches starting at 11:30.
There are 20 participating teams.
Mystix Pool tourney
The second Mystix Pool Tournament (eight-ball) will take place on Saturday, December 15, and Sunday, December 16, at Mystix, 78 3/4 Hagley Park Road, starting at 5:00 p.m. each day.
The tournament, which is open to A, B and C class players, offers a first prize of $50,000 and trophy, second $20,000, third $10,000 and fourth $5,000. Entry fee is $2,000 up to Friday, December 14; $2,500 thereafter. The previous tournament in October was won by Ewart Hall from Hot Shots.
Umpires awards function
Former president of the West Indies Cricket Board Pat Rousseau will be the guest speaker at tonight's annual presentation function of the Jamaica Cricket Umpires Association at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel, Waterloo Road, starting at 7:30.
