McKenzie's selective activism
published: Tuesday | December 4, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

There is a certain irony in the selective treatment of issues in the city by the Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Desmond McKenzie. From time to time, he appears on television newscasts showing that he will personally take down signs and stop construction which do not receive the approval of the KSAC.

Yet, one only has to travel from Kingston via Spanish Town Road to see large quantities of steel being stored on the street in front of the hardware store of a reputed area leader. The mayor is not seen enforcing his council's rules in this area.

Contradicting

It is also troubling, too, that plazas are being constructed on the sidewalks in the Darling Street area of west Kingston, but the mayor turns a blind eye.

Aren't these construction activities contrary to the KSAC's requirements, or is it because it is in the vicinity of Tivoli Gardens why nothing is heard about these daily violation of KSAC rules.

I would urge the mayor to clean up his backyard before he tries to clean up those of other people's.

I am, etc.,
