Artiste: Jabez
Album: Still Praying
Genre: Gospel
Ratings: 3 out of 5 stars
Jabez's debut album, Still Praying, starts well and ends lively, but is too calm in the middle.
The lyrics on the 11-track album was written by Jabez, except for the cover of Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come and Brendan Graham's You Raise Me Up, which is smooth and relaxing as the first track. The background vocals complement the song and give it the gospel sound that most persons were accustomed to hearing in the early '90s.
It ends with No Greater Love, which sounds repetitous in sections, but has a current sound. The song is dedicated to young people who know that Jesus' love is a blessing. As expected, the song has a nice young dance feel that young people can enjoy.
Most of the songs in the middle of the album allow for meditation and offer guidance to the listeners. They are good for prayer and have strong meaning the songs lack a certain level of lyricism, they are quite meaningful.
The album has aspects of different music genres, such as country and western, reggae and Negro spiritual. This, combined with Jabez's tenor voice, makes it appeal to all sectors of the society.
