It was almost seven o'clock on Monday night and a few members of the Sts. Peter and Paul Preparatory School's Home School Association (HSA) were gathered in one of the many hallways at the Carib Cinema in Cross Roads, St. Andrew, awaiting the start of Beowulf's premiere.
The HSA fund-raising event was slated for an 8 p.m. start. By time the pre-movie cocktails commenced at 7 p.m., the gathering had grown thicker and the chuckles and smooches were many, as familiar faces got reacquainted with each other over some fruit, cheese and wine.
Three lucky winners
Midway through the movie, during the intermission, past HSA president, Jacqueline Gordon-Martin, and Mrs. Maureen O'Connor, chairman of the board at Sts. Peter and Paul Prep, conducted a raffle and gave away the gate prizes of two Digicel cellphones and a weekend at the Starfish Resort in Trelawny, to three lucky ticket holders.
Bertina Maccaulay, president of the HSA, said that she was satisfied with the turnou it was less than they expected, given that the HSA had sold some 300 tickets for the event.
Without letting the cat out the bag, Beowulf was exceptional and a few ladies in the theatre said that they were pleased with the event.
