A prisoner who was paroled last year after serving 23 years for a gun murder is now back in prison serving 25 years' imprisonment for gun offences he committed while on parole.
He is 46-year-old Carlton Linton, also called 'Russian', of Corn Piece Settlement, Clarendon. Linton was charged jointly with Kenton Redding, also called 'Son Son', for illegal possession of firearm and wounding with intent.
Acting Supreme Court judge Martin Gayle convicted the men of the charges and Redding was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment.
No remorse
The judge, in sentencing Linton, told him that he did not show any remorse for what he had done. The judge expressed concern as to how Linton could have spent such a long time in prison and, when given a chance, not make use of it.
The men said in their defence that they did not shoot anyone.
The complainant testified in the Gun Court Division of the Clarendon Circuit Court that he knew both men before. He said on September 12 this year he went to check one of his friends at Corn Piece Settlement.
He said he saw Linton and Redding, whom he knew before, standing under a tree and he spoke with them for about five minutes.
He said, while going towards his friend's house which was near to where the men were, that Linton and Redding, who were armed with guns, began firing shots at him. He was shot in the left shoulder and he later made a report to the police.
