Sunday in the City with Red Stripe took on an artistic flavour as, in collaboration with the National Gallery of Jamaica, the 'world's coolest beer company' sought to highlight the 'definitive collection of the nation's art' and to "rediscover the soul of Kingston, the city we know and love".
The afternoon began with an informative slide show enlightening the audience on the development of Jamaica's music, and the persons who played a vital role in its success. They included Sonny Bradshaw, Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd, and Cecil 'Prince Buster' Campbell, to name a few. The show also featured a few of the historical places where the music started, like Idler's Rest, Big Yard and Jazz Hut.
The festivities continued as guests participated in the 'Responsible Crossword Puzzle' and, the 'Gallery Challenge Treasure Hunt'. And as the name suggests, it really was a challenge, as the judges had a hard time finding complete and correct answers to the questions asked, unlike the crosswords you could answer even if you were intoxicated.
Towards the end of the show, competitors received gifts for their effort, as well as spot prizes for the first person to reach the stage wearing something red, full white, or males dressed in female shoes and other gimmicks.
Guests included Mark Wienberger; Odette Dixon-Neath; Hylton Dennis; the Red Stripe family of Timothy Szonyi; Mark McKenzie and wife, Betty; Yvonne Haynes; Andy Jones; Jennifer Foreman; Maxine Whittingham, among others.
