Dunoon take on Tarrant for the title
published: Friday | December 7, 2007

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

THE BATTLE for this year's ISSA/Digicel Urban schoolgirls' senior netball title will be decided today when defending champions Dunoon Technical oppose Tarrant at the National Stadium, starting 3:15 p.m.

In the junior final, St. Andrew will oppose defending champions Queen's at 2:45 p.m.

Dunoon, who boast a number of national Under-21 invitees, including goal attack Crystal Gordon and goal shooter Jody-Ann Foreman, booked their place in the final by thrashing Wolmer's 35-25 in the semis.

C. Lloyd Walker, coach of Dunoon, is optimistic about his team's chances.

"We have trained hard this week and we are going out there to play good netball because any one of the teams can win on the day," said Walker.

"We understand our opponent because we drew with them earlier in the season. We know that they have quality, depth and also national player Christina Solmon, but we are going there to play positive netball," he said.

Meanwhile, Tarrant will be led by Solmon, who was a part of Jamaica's team that won the bronze medal at the last month's World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand. They whipped Ardenne 31-14 to gain their spot in the final.

Delroy Johnson, coach of Tarrant, said, "I am very confident because we should have beaten them earlier in the season but we made a few mistakes which we won't make this time around."

"Dunoon is a very strong team but I think that my attack will get the better of their defence," said Johnson.

Solmon is expected to receive support from goal attack Samantha White and goal defence Nickeisha Lewis.
