The Editor, Sir:I believe that the culture that currently exists in Jamaica is certainly no reflection of the heritage that Marcus Garvey, Sir Alexander Bustamante, Norman Washington Manley, and others have left us.
For 18 years, we have seen a lifestyle of deeper corruption, nepotism, and crime of all types. A new government has been sworn in with high expectations from many people who are looking for a government who will display behaviour of the highest integrity and respect for every human being, regardless of political beliefs.
To the past administration, I call on you to take the time while you are in Opposition to seriously reflect on where you want to go as a party and where you would like to see Jamaica in the future. The behaviour of people like Danny Buchanan needs to be seriously evaluated. His is a personality that does not befit the Jamaica of the 21st century. Madam Leader of the Opposition needs to polish her attitude to suitably fit into a country of mixed personalities that not only incorporates those that are not the greatest thinkers, but also those who have the greatest reasoning ability. To men of the calibre of Drs. Omar Davies and Peter Phillips, I would say, continue to be real men and stand out among the rest, especially if you would like to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Ugly signs emerging
With regard to the Government, there are evidently some ugly signs emerging that need to be stopped now, not sooner or later. Junior Ministers Mullings, Vaz and Warmington, I would like to ask: "What makes you think that you can make careless statements and and think that it is going to be acceptable?" Mr. Prime Minister, I urge you to do your duty without fear or favour, and most of all, serve the people well, because they are looking to you for a kind of leadership that is the epitome of excellence.
Jamaicans must wake up and put hands and hearts together to fight the ugly enemy that seems to be raising its head over the nation at this time. Let us all do it together for ourselves and our children.
I am, etc.,
