Well done, Mrs Davis-Williams!
published: Sunday | December 9, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Allow me the use of this medium to congratulate Mrs. Joan Davis-William who was recently selected as the Teacher of the Year in the LASCO Teacher of the Year competition.

I had the privilege of being taught by this icon of a Jamaican woman in my early years at St. Jago High School, and I can easily boast of having been left a legacy of excellence, positive thinking, justice and commitment to hard work.

I can recall vividly on one occasion when, having painted and beautified our classroom, we were being asked to leave it behind as it was time to move on to another class. She lobbied on our behalf and not surprisingly, we were allowed to stay and enjoy the pleasant environs we had worked so hard to create.

She is every bit deserving of this award and I am convinced that her truly positive impact on young minds in the education system will only redound to the benefit of Jamaica.

I am, etc.,
