Sporting deny Seba
published: Monday | December 10, 2007

Dwight Nelson, Freelance Writer

Sporting Central Academy extinguished Seba United chances of joining Portmore United in the end-of-first-round final of the Cash Plus Premier League with a workman-like 2-1 victory at Brancourt yesterday.

Seba started the day a clear second on 16 points and would have joined already-qualified Portmore United in the final with a win. Sporting took the lead in the seventh minute when Sean Coleman picked up a ball on the edge of the 18-yard box, then rolled it into the box for the unmarked Hughan Gray to tap into the goal .

Their advantage was doubled five minutes later when Greg Gardner controlled a ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and fired a sizzling right-footed shot past goalkeeper Neil Lynch.

Seba managed to score in the 80th minute when substitute Daniel Rickettes fired a fierce shot into the roof of the net. He could have had a double and the equaliser in the 88th minute, but Rickettes' shot from point-blank range hit the goalpost.
