The Editor, Sir:
I concur with CAFFE that both Messrs Everald Warmington and Robert Montague should resign with immediate effect. Their pronounce-ments are scandalous and corrupt.
This takes on greater significance when the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), under the leadership of the current Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, have on numerous occasions spoken about good governance in a new dispensation, characterised by transparency, accountability and impartiality in the handling of state resources.
How are these pronouncements from these two government ministers different from the alleged corruption over which Golding and the JLP condemned the previous People's National Party government?
Where is the change? Where is the difference? Where is the accountability and the appropriate sanctions to rid this nation of corruption and partisan politics?
What will the Prime Minister do differently from previous leaders and administrations, particularly, the immediate outgoing administration?
For the JLP to have any moral authority and credibility in its fight against corruption, it must first ensure that its own house is in order.
It must show that it is prepared to strike at the heart of corruption and corrupt members from among its ranks before vigorously pursuing its opponents on the same charge.
Anything less than this is hypocritical and can also be deemed corrupt and 'double-speak'.
I am, etc.,
