'Jah' kingdom goes to waste
published: Tuesday | December 11, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

We recently had the slaying of the highest ranking police officer among 50 other citizens mercilessly gunned down. This, to my mind, should have triggered a serious approach by the Government and Opposition parties, to put all else aside and urgently bring the Ministry of National Security, the army and the private sector to an urgent meeting to tackle this terror.

Instead, it seems to be business as usual. The new Minister of National Security, who has had 18 years of looking on, now finds himself with a monster that he has no clue of what to do or to offer any meaningful solution.

We have not heard a word of concern from our Prime Minister during his victory and birthday celebrations. Were the families of the victims of these wanton killings given a thought?

How sad they must feel to see the Prime Minister's birthday cake being displayed in the media while they grieve. Do any of us have the heart to have a celebration when a member of our family is brutally killed? Now, we see the politicians' priorities.

What is the recourse for citizens who are wondering who is next? Citizens of Jamaica, it is time for action. Jah kingdom is going to waste.

I am, etc.,

A.GUY MORRIS
