My Thunder fancied

EL PEQUENO, running as the 9-5 favourite with Richard Mitchell aboard, wins the George Headley Jr. Memorial Cup feature over 1400 metres at Caymanas Park, on Wednesday. Mathie had a second winner on the card in the 25-1 outsider JACK SPARROW in the fifth race. Both the Pick-9 and Super-6 start anew after eluding punters at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, thanks to notable upsets by JACK SPARROW at 25-1 and BUSTER JACK at 9-1.

The Pick-9 has $1 million in the kitty, while the more popular Super-6 offers an attractive $809,444.25 carryover. Two punters with eight of nine winners each received Pick-9 consolation prizes of $70,366.00. It embraces all nine races on tomorrow's card, while the Super-6 will be conducted from races four to nine.

Bidding for a hat-trick

We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a $380,000-$340,000 claiming race to be contested by eight starters, including the recent winners NUMERO UNO and the Wesley Perkins-trained BABY RENEE, who bids for a hat-trick of wins.

BABY RENEE got up in the nick of time to catch NUMERO UNO over this trip on November 24 and subsequently followed up over 1300 metres last Saturday when having the then favourite OLE KING COLE (renews rivalry) in third.

NUMERO UNO subsequently beat a good field over the straight on a $420,000 claiming tag on December 1, and having lowered his sights, should stave off BABY RENEE now worse off at the weights. Also expected to run well is TASSY'S WHIP who finished just behind BABY RENEE and NUMERO UNO on November 24.

The fifth race or the Richard Ashenheim Cup for two-year-olds should resolve itself into a straight fight between IT IS I and MY THUNDER, both having finished second in their last races.

Front running

MY THUNDER, who chased home REGAL SELECTION in the Abbie Grannum Cup over 1400 metres on his recent debut, has been administered Lasix for this race and having pleased in his preparation, the chestnut colt from the stables of Anthony Ferguson gets the nod.

THUNDER SQUAD, who had no luck in running behind JACK SPARROW on November 10 when having problems at the start, has worked exceptionally well since, and should have little difficulty in leading home the front-running DANCING SAM and CRUCIAL PIOINT in the sixth race for the William Read Memorial Cup over 1300 metres.

Recent winner MISS PAIGE and RED I should fight out the finish of the seventh race over 1200 metres, while THANKS-WITHASMILE ,who was second to PAGEE PRINCESS recently, should stave off RIGGED TO WIN and KAMECHI in the eighth race over 1100 metres for the Titania Trophy.

Then take SEEMELATER to win the closing mile and quarter race for the Eggie Sutherland Memorial Cup at the expense of TROPICAL DREAMER, TOO HOT TO TROT and MAAS JOE.
