Seba, Granville through to finals
published: Wednesday | December 19, 2007

WESTERN BUREAU:

REIGNING CHAMPIONS Seba United and Western Confederation champions Granville earned the right to contest the final of the St. James/Captain's Bakery Knockout on Sunday when they emerged victorious in their semi-finals against Mt. Salem and Wadadah at Jarrett Park.

In the action-packed game with Mt. Salem, the Tracy Reid-coached Granville notched a 2-1 victory through David Gillard and prolific striker Jermaine Anderson while Mt. Salem, who missed a penalty late in the game, got their consolation goal from Fitzroy Reid.

Extremely pleased

"It was a tough game but we managed to maintain our focus throughout and it paid off for us," said Reid. "We are extremely pleased with this result as we see it as a clear indication that our preparation for the season is on track," she said.

By virtue of making the final, Granville earned the right to represent St. James in the upcoming All-Island Knockout competition as Seba United, the other qualifier for the Captain's Bakery final, are already assured of their place in the All-Island competition by virtue of their Premier League status.

Seba had the better of the action against old rivals Wadadah but in the end were lucky to escape with their 1-0 win, as their opponents missed a penalty which would have brought them back in the game.

Seba United's lone goal came in the ninth minute when the bustling Kemar James caught the Wadadah defence napping and stroked the ball into the goal from close range.
