The Editor, Sir:Your columnist Martin Henry, in an article filled with uncontestable facts, has sought to argue that there are many areas of syncretism in both European and Jamaican Christianity.
His facts are absolutely true but, instead of destroying my arguments against the JCDC-sponsored wakes for Herb McKenley recently, and for Charles Hyatt earlier in the year, he has supported my arguments. While it may be too late in history to prevent any syncretism in our practices of Christianity, it is still no reason to accept what is, or to allow more such mixture of paganism and Christianity to creep in unchallenged. We ought to oppose what already exists, and seek to restrain any new corruption of the faith.
To the many who are unaware of these non-Christian practices which have crept in, it is important that we point them out and seek to prevent their continued practice, to the degree that we can.
Thank you, Martin Henry, for confirming my objections. While your analysis is spot on, you have failed to indicate whether you stand with me in my objections or not. Don't obscure the truth with your analysis, take a stand on the issue one way or the other, please!
I am, etc.,
