Georges stop H View
published: Saturday | December 22, 2007

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Stars of the East, Harbour View yesterday crumbled to a 1-2 defeat from St. Georges Sports Club in the second round of matches in the Coca-Cola National Under 21 League at Harbour View Mini Stadium.

St. Georges took control of the game from the get-go when Dennis Neish propelled his team into the lead in the third minute.

Despite numerous attempts Harbour View failed to exploit the many opportunities afforded them to score. It would seem like a stroke of bad luck for Harbour View following Lamar Hodges departure in the 18th minute, when he was given marching orders.

However, Harbour View's resilience reaped good rewards as within 15 minutes to the close of the half, Montrose Rose secured the equaliser in the 30th minute.

By the 58th minute St. Georges solidified their lead with a strong header from Oshane Dobson that put them ahead 2-1.

According to Ludlow Bernard, Harbour View's coach, "we were pressing hard for the equalising goal. But St. Georges getting players behind the ball made it frustrating for us and then unfortunately, many of our players lost their composure.

Donovan Duckie, the coach of St. Georges, said: "We decided to keep possession of the ball and that paid off for us. For the first half the percentage of turnovers was too high."

In other games Arnett Gardens clipped Reno 1-0, Portmore United edged Sporting Central Academy 1-0, Seba clipped Waterhouse 3-2, August Town and Boys' Town drew 1-1, the same as Village United and Tivoli Gardens.

Despite the loss, Harbour View continue to lead with 12 points, followed by Arnett Gardens on 10, Portmore United nine, Sporting Central Academy, Reno, Boys' Town, Tivoli Gardens and St. Georges all tied on seven, Waterhouse and Village United on five, August Town with four and Seba at the bottom on three points.
