A hilarious comedy
published: Friday | December 28, 2007

MOVIE TITLE: I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.

RATING: ★★★

RUNNING TIME: 110 minutes

BONUS FEATURES: Deleted scenes, 'Laughing is Contagious - hysterical outtakes and funny moments with the cast'; 'I Now Pronounce you Husband and Husband', 'Look Who Stopped By', 'Stop Drop and Roll' and more.

WHO'S IN IT: Adam Sandler, (Chuck) and Kevin James (Larry), Jessica Biel, Dan Aykroyd, Ving Rhames.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: It's a humorous take on friendship and the extent to which a friend would go to prove his loyalty. In this comedy, a serial dater heterosexual played by Sandler is called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice for his friend Larry, played by James. He must give up, for the time being, his heterosexual lifestyle for the pretence of being gay. If they can convince everyone, including a court appointed investigator, that the fake domestic partnership is real, they will ensure that Larry's children are able to benefit from his pension plan.

LONG STORY SHORT:

The comedy is heart-warming, but as is the case with Adam Sandler flicks, there are enough base jokes to go around. Some of the humour you can spot a mile away. The public shower scene, which features Chuck and Larry and a bar of soap which slips from the hands of a firefighter, is one such incident. We know no one will really want to bend over and get it.

In the midst of all the fun, serious issues are also explored. In a comedy about being gay, it would be too tempting to resist preaching tolerance and acceptance, and the issue is driven home like a sledgehammer smashing a pumpkin.

Nonetheless, if you can see pass the Lucite heels and fake eyelashes, you can enjoy the movie.
