Cop collapses, dies in Montego Bay
published: Friday | December 28, 2007

WESTERN BUREAU:

A police corporal who operated a cambio in Montego Bay died yesterday afternoon after he collapsed at his business establishment.

Cpl. Paul Sutton, who was recently transferred to the Kingston West Division from the Montego Bay Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), passed away as he sat around his desk at Atiya Investments Cambio at the Westgate Shopping Centre.

Unusually quiet

"He was unusually quiet, just sitting in the chair," said a source close to the establishment.

It is said that Corporal Sutton's employees called for an ambulance, which took his body to the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

The Gleaner understands that Corporal Sutton collapsed last Friday and had complained of having chest pains.

Retired Superintendent of Police, John Morris, recalled that he supervised Corporal Sutton in the early 1990s while he was attached to the Montego Bay CIB.

"He was a very strong-willed person and usually required strong supervision. However, he was always committed to the task that he was given," the retired officer commented.

Corporal Sutton, who gave over 20 years of service to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, is survived by his wife and daughter.
