Hogg charged over remarks
published: Wednesday | January 9, 2008

Hogg

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP):

AUSTRALIA SPINNER Brad Hogg was charged yesterday with making an offensive remark to India's Anil Kumble and Mahendra Dhoni during his side's second Test win in Sydney.

India bowler Harbhajan Singh has already appealed against a three-match ban for making a racist comment to Andrew Symonds - a punishment that led to the tourists threatening to call off the remainder of their tour - and Hogg now faces a hearing on Monday in Perth.

Banned

Hogg is accused of insulting India captain Kumble and vice captain Dhoni during their second innings on Sunday's final day, when India lost by 122 runs after being bowled out for 210 to trail 2-0 in the four-Test series.

He could be banned for between two and four Test matches or for as many as eight one-day internationals if found guilty.

India's appeal against Harbhajan's ban will likely be held before the third Test, which is scheduled to start on January 16 in Perth.
