Lambert satisfied
published: Saturday | January 12, 2008

Jamaica's captain Tamar Lambert has expressed satisfaction with his team's performance on yesterday's opening day of their Carib Beer Series game against Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) at Kensington Park.

Replying to the CCC's small total of 99, Jamaica will resume today's second day in a commanding position at 103 for two.

"I am pleased with the team's performance so far," said Lambert. "We got a team out for 99 just before team, that was a good effort from our bowlers.

"At 103 for two we would have liked to have lost one wicket, but I got out just before close of play," he continued. "Xavier is 50 not out, so hopefully tomorrow he can carry on and score triple figures."

Lambert, who promoted himself up in the batting order, and Marshall, put on 68 for the second wicket, before the latter fell leg before to Jason Bennett for 30.

He explained the reason for moving up the order.

"The coach and I sat down and decided that we needed someone with a little bit more experience at the top, not saying that Nash is not experienced, but somebody who is used to our first-class cricket to really stabilize the position, somebody who knows the bowlers already in the Caribbean, that's why I decided to bat early."

Roland Butcher, the CCC's head of delegation, blamed said: "I thought we got a reasonably good start, despite losing an early wicket.

"Going to lunch (57 for three) we were in quite a good position, then 80 odd for three, we were still in a good position, then for some reason we kept losing wickets ... 90-odd for five and then got bowled out for 99, it's pretty disappointing," he lamented.
