BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):A combination of pace and spin undermined Guyana's batting which collapsed sensationally after tea as title holders Barbados enjoyed a good opening day in their second round Carib Beer Cup match yesterday.
Put in on a hard, true Kensington Oval pitch, Guyana were dismissed for 185 to which Barbados responded with 58 for two when fading light ended play at 5.35 p.m. with four overs remaining.
At the crease were left-handers Jason Haynes on 22 and Ryan Hinds (11). Dale Richards was bowled by off-spinner Zaheer Mohammed for 24 as he attempted a cut and Dwayne Smith (1) edged a drive off fast bowler Jeremy Gordon to first slip.
Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan topscored for Guyana with a fighting 55 - his third consecutive score of over 50 for the season - after he was dropped on 10 at point by Smith off the impressive young fast bowler Kemar Roach. Sarwan's dismissal off the tall, left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, triggered the dramatic slump as the last five wickets tumbled for only seven runs in 25 balls.
